Rent a Car in Rhodes: to be or not to be?
Deciding to rent a car in Rhodes or not is something that many people think about when they are on their final destination. Especially if you are staying in the Rhodes area, where public transport can take a long time and taxis are expensive. There is no right answer to this question, and it will depend on your personal situation.
In this guide, I will present three pros and cons of renting a car so you can make an informed decision!
Renting a car in Rhodes allows you to rent one for a day, a week or even longer. This will give you the versatility of traveling directly from your holiday accommodation, without the need to rely on public transport services or taxi. If returning at night and parking close to your accommodation is important then renting a vehicle makes perfect sense.
Renting a car is also a good option if you want to rent one for a day or two and explore the area. You will have the freedom to visit any number of attractions without relying on public transport services and of course you will travel in an air-conditioned, crowdy-free vehicle!
Renting a car in Rhodes can be done for a day, week or even longer with the major rent-a-car companies. The cost of renting a car varies from company to company and also the size of the vehicle, but in high season you should expect to pay no less than €30-35 per day for a small car.
To get the greatest price and make sure you can use the vehicle when it's most useful, book your rental car ahead of time.
I'm a big fan of road trips and have driven rental cars in over 25 cities throughout the world, so I have quite experience in different styles of bookings! And big brands are my final decision. You get guaranteed service at good prices with a nice value for money combination!I suggest reserving your vehicle using the rent a car in Rhodes price comparison tool of Autoeurope because they have the greatest variety and prices that I've ever found and they rely on big brands so you definitely will get what you paid!
What to keep in mind when Renting a Car in Rhodes
Choose the smallest possible car that fits your needs.
Why this? With a tiny vehicle, you'll have several more parking possibilities throughout the city and the rest of the island, cause many of its roads and parking spots are quite narrow in Rhodes, so renting a little car will save you a lot of time and aggravation during your visit!
Book on time!
While in Rhodes there are dozens of small, neighborhood-style rent car offices, and you can find a car relatively easily, it is not guaranteed that you will get the right price if you are a last-minute renter. There are examples of paying over 50 euros per day for the smallest possible car (5 years old Nissan Micra, on August) and with an extra charge for delivery at the airport. You can find all the trustworthy rent a car companies in Rhodes such as Avis,Hertz, Sixt, Alamo, etc, and be sure that you get what you want!
Always check the price tag of the petrol stations before heading in!
Fuel is relatively pricey in Rhodes, with petrol costing around €1.75-€1.90 per litre and diesel costing around €1.40-€1.65 per litre. There are a variety of stations on the island, all of which take cash and credit cards. Given the size of the island, it's unlikely you'll spend much on petrol during your stay.
Adapt your driving style! Be lawful!
Driving in Rhodes, like most little islands, is a lot more laid-back than in mainland Greece, with drivers being polite and pleasant. The only difficulty you will encounter is finding a place to park in areas like Rhodes Town, where there were a lot of other cars.
GPS ? No thanks!
A perfect totally useless upsale that rent a car companies do is the well-known "GPS on car". Come on, you gonna have your mobile phone with you right? Ok download Google Maps, it's free!
Rhodes has great coverage on mobile 4G network with even nice download speeds (just don't watch Netflix when driving!). Drive safely, remember that you can find information in nearly anything on Rhodes at the collaborating websites found in the homepage!
